Evidence Based Practice in SLP

Speech and Language Pathology Department organized a guest lecture on “Evidence Based Practice in Speech and Language Pathology” for speech and Language Pathology students.
The speaker for the lecture was Dr. Sikander who is presently working as Assistant Professor at Riphah International University in the department of Speech and Language Pathology.
In this lecture Dr. Sikander discussed the importance of evidence based practices in clinical setting. He also told different types of evidence based practice method that can be used in the clinical setting.
Dr. Sikandar introduced the participants to many exclusive examples regarding EBP methodologies. He shared his own experience regarding clinical practices or how to utilize different evidence in clinical practice. He also advised students to take help from faculty regarding literature evidences for treatment approaches.
At the end of this session Dr. Baber Aziz (Dean of Academics) and Ms. Rabia Azmat (HOD-SLP) presents a shield to Dr. Sikander as token of appreciation

Allama Iqbal Declamation Contest at NUR International University

The Debating Club of NIU organized Allama Iqbal Declamation Contest on Saturday 14th, April, 2018. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi. The Vice Chancellor (Prof Dr Rakhshanda Rehman), Registrar, Dean Academic Affairs, Manager Operations, Assistant Director Q and A and CFO NIU were also present at the event in addition to the administrative staff, faculty members and students of NIU. Participants presented their arguments on various topics relating to the ideology of Iqbal in both Urdu and English Languages. The declamations were judged by a panel of 8 Judges including Mrs Anila Saleem (Program Manager Radio Pakistan), Dr Latif Aftab (Professor, FMH), Dr Amer Shoib (Associate Professor, FMH), Dr Khurram Illyas (Senior Demonstrator, FMH), Dr Asima Malik (Professor, FJMC), Dr Nayyab Anwar (Former President Debating Club, FJMC), Ms Maryam Tariq (President Debating Club, FMH). Three winners were selected from both categories i.e. Urdu and English. The winners of English declamations were Ms Tehreem Fatima (First Position), Ms Zainab Ilyas (Second Position), Mr. M. Taymor (ThirdPosition) and the winners of Urdu declamations included Ms Mahrukh Rashid (First Position), Ms Areeba Arif (Second position) and Ms Maryam Imran (Third Position). The Chief Guests and VC distributed certificates and cash prizes among the winners of the competition, first position holders in both categories received Rs. 5000/-, second position holders received Rs. 3000/- and third position holders received cash prize of Rs. 2000/-. Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi also announced Rs. 500/- cash prize for all the runner ups of the event. In the end the Vice Chancellor, NIU and Chief Guest distributed shields to the judges and refreshments were served for the guests.

Model Display on the theme of “Brain and Behavior” by Students of Applied Psychology Department

The students of Department of Applied Psychology at NIU displayed models on the theme of “Brain and Behavior” on Wednesday 18th April, 2018. The students creatively used various materials such as clay, styrofoam, card, paper, cotton, lights etc to display the structure and function of various parts of the brain including the sense organs. The students also elaborated the mechanism of each model to the audience.

Workshop at NIU on the Topic of “Time Management”

The Applied Psychology Department at NIU arranged a workshop for the students of NIU on the topic of “Time Management”. The workshop was held on 18th April, 2018, Dr Ayesha Sarfaraz conducted the workshop. She initiated the workshop by asking the participants to identify the problems they faced when managing the time between university, personal/family and social life. Dr Ayesha elaborated that when time is not managed effectively it leads to stress as failure to plan is basically planning to fail. Effective time management strategies were discussed and elaborated in the workshop with the help of practical exercises. The participants greatly enjoyed the workshop and thanked the presenter for providing useful time management tips.
