Health Care Camp 2018

A Health care camp held at NUR International University (NIU) to raise awareness among its staff and students on various aspects of nutrition and health. For this purpose students and staff were given an opportunity to get themselves medically assessed against identified aspects relating to nutrition and health at nominal rates. It is viewed that this personal experience helped them in developing a better and lasting understanding of the subject and its practical application in their professional life.

In addition, basic information on related aspects was systematically collected with the permission of participants and used for research to determine emerging trends in this regard. This will help in establishing the credentials of NIU in health research as well as help in the higher objective of knowledge dissemination.

Stammering Awareness Seminar

NUR International University’s Department of Speech and Language Pathology organized “Stammering Awareness Seminar” at Model Town Campus. The seminar was attended by the faculty of NIU along with students. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Member Board of Governors graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and Dr. Munawar Malik was invited as a Guest Speaker. Dr. Munawar Ahmed Malik is currently working as Assistant Professor in Department of special education, University of Punjab. Besides a carrier as a special educationist, he also holds specialization in the field of speech and language therapy. During his professional carrier, he has served at National Institute for the handicapped Islamabad as a speech therapist for seven years. Later, Dr. Munawar joined MENCAP, an organization for the mentally challenged in the UK for about two years at Birmingham, U.K. Served at Hamza Foundation Academy, a school for deaf as Principal for six years before joining Punjab University in 2013. The respected Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman was also present at the event and lauded the efforts of Speech and Language department for organizing the seminar.

Pakistan Health Supply Chain System

Fatima Memorial Hospital and Nur International University organized a Symposium on supply chain management system strengthening on 31st October 2018 in collaboration with Chemonics International. Provincial Minister of Punjab for Primary and Secondary Healthcare and Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, Dr. Yasmeen Rashid chaired the event as the Chief Guest. Prominent officials from the health department, senior management of FMS, NIU and FMHMC faculty were also in attendance.

Key speakers included Mrs. Shahima Rehman, Chairperson Fatima Memorial Hospital, Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman, Dean School of Health Sciences Fatima Memorial College of Medicine and Dentistry and Vice Chancellor NUR International University, Dr. Muhammad Tariq Country Director GHSC-PSM Project and Dr. Qaiser Raza, Assistant Professor, NUR International University.

“Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar”

NUR International University in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Pakistan organized a seminar on “Breast Cancer Awareness” on Thursday 25th October, 2018. The purpose of the seminar was to create awareness regarding the prevalence of breast cancer among Pakistani women and how early diagnosis and intervention can improve treatment outcome.

The keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. Asim Malik who is working as an Advanced Laparoscopic, Vascular and Cancer Surgeon at Fatima Memorial Hospital Lahore, Dr. Ghazia Qasmi, who is currently working as the Assistant Professor of Surgery at Fatima Memorial Hospital Lahore. The other keynote speaker was Dr. Samina Khurshid, who is working as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at FMH Lahore.

The seminar started with the recitation of the Holy Quran after which National Anthem was played. Prof. Dr. Nighat Bhatty, Dean of Applied Sciences at NIU delivered the welcome note. She highlighted the importance of creating awareness regarding Breast Cancer as every 9th women in Pakistan is suffering from it. The Vice-Chancellor of NIU, Prof. Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman further elaborated the need to create awareness regarding Breast Cancer especially among rural and uneducated sector of our society. She stressed the importance of screening and early diagnosis of Breast Cancer as this alone improves survival.

Dr. Ghazia Qasmi, elaborated in detail the factors that have been linked with Breast Cancer. Dr. Ghazia and Dr. Samina also laid stress on etiology, screening and early diagnosis in improving prognosis of patients.

Prof. Dr. Asim Malik stated that the survival rate of Breast Cancer patients has improved considerably over the years and advances in the treatment of breast cancer have greatly improved the quality of life of the patients.

Prof. Dr. Nighat Bhatty (Dean of Applied Sciences, NIU) in her concluding remarks stressed the importance of eating a healthy and nutritious diet since research shows that obesity is also linked to breast cancer. Prof. Dr. Nighat thanked all the guest speakers for their valuable contribution and for taking time out of their busy schedules and joining hands with NIU in creating awareness regarding Breast Cancer.

In the end, Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi (Chairman, Board of Governors, NIU) and Prof. Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman (Vice Chancellor, NIU) presented shields to the guest speakers as a token of appreciation after which refreshments were served.
