Special Lecture on Refined Food and Health

Department of Clinical Nutrition organized a special lecture on Refined Food and Health on 4th April 2019. The purpose of this special lecture was to create awareness about the effect of eating refined food on wellbeing of individuals.

The event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by National Anthem.  Prof. Dr. Nighat Bhatty, HOD/ Dean of Applied Sciences delivered the welcome note and thanked the guest speaker, faculty members and students for being present at the event. She also highlighted the serious health issues associated with the intake of refined foods on regular basis.

The key note speaker was Prof. Dr Sakhawat Ali Director General PCSIR (Rtd); he is currently working as a Technical Director at Islamic Food & Nutrition Council of America (Halal Food Association).

Highlights of his lecture were:

  • Refined foods have higher caloric content and low nutritive value as compared to fresh foods.
  • Impact of eating refined and processed food on health.
  • Refined foods are the leading cause of obesity, diabetes mellitus and heart diseases.
  • The importance of eating fresh foods.

The session was concluded by Prof. Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Co-Chairperson NUR-FMS, he stressed upon the importance of eating healthy food how it will impact our health. Later Prof. Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi presented shield to the guest speaker as a token of appreciation and thanked him for sharing his views on the said topic.

Sports Day 2019

 NUR International University held its 1st Annual Sports Day 2019 at the newly launched Main Campus located at Raiwind Road. The sports events comprised Cricket, Badminton, and Table Tennis with Athletics taking the main share with 100 Meter, 200 Meter, Relay Race, Long Jump, High Jump, Sack Race, Chatti Race, Three Legged Race etc. The students participated to the fullest and made the event a successful one. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman opened the games with Co-Chairman NUR FMS, Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi hoisted the flags. The students were divided into four houses, NIU Kings, NIU Leopards, NIU Warriors, and NIU Dragons. NIU Leopards won the most medals and were crowned the champions.

Prof. Dr. Rakhshanda Rehman, Vice Chancellor hosted the Sports Day 2019 with Dr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Co-Chairman, NUR FMS graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Other dignitaries consisted of Dr. Jamshed Nasir, Principal, FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry and Dr. Nazia Yazdani, Principal, FMH College of Dentistry who were the guest of honor of the event.

MAO Annual Bilingual Declamation Contest & Lahore Debating Gala

  • Ms Areeba Arif (DPT 4th semester) and Ms Zainab Illyas (BSNS 4th semester) from NUR International University participated in the “MAO Annual Bilingual Declamation Contest”. Teams from all over Lahore participated in the event. The performance of NIU team members was greatly appreciated by the judges. The judges also quoted that there was a tie between second position holder and Ms Areeba from NIU and it was very difficult for them to choose.
  • Ms. Tehreem Fatima (DPT 4th semester) and Ms Mahrukh Rashid (SLP 4th Semester) participated in the”Lahore Debating Gala” organized by FMH. More than 20 teams participated in the event including GCU, PU, FCCU, SIMS and AIMC. Ms Tehreem competed in English Serious Debates and Ms Mahrukh participated in Urdu Humourous Debate. The performance of both the participants was greatly appreciated by the judges. Ms Tehreem was also awarded the consolation prize in the event .
