WHAT IS BS BIOCHEMISTRY?

Biochemistry is an exciting and rapidly growing field of study. Biochemists are working and playing a major role in various areas of study like Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, and Immunology. Biochemistry explores the biochemical processes occurring within living organisms. In short, it explains the fundamentals of life itself. Bachelor in Biochemistry (BS Biochemistry) program at NIU is designed to offer comprehensive learning of chemical processes within and related to living organisms. Our curriculum stretches to the frontiers of contemporary developments in the study of chemical reactions, functions, structure and synthesis of biological molecules. Since biochemistry has become an integral part of modern science, hence, BS in Biochemistry is a door to many career opportunities not only in Pakistan but also across the globe.

WHY AT NIU?

The courses offered provide the students with extensive exposure to basic Biochemistry, as well as Cell Biology and Molecular Biology. During BS Biochemistry program, students develop skills in practical laboratory techniques, data interpretation, critical analysis and computational skills allied to biochemistry and scientific writing.

The field of Biochemistry accommodates people with a wide spectrum of interests, from those with a strong biological orientation to those who view themselves more as chemists. Our curriculum of BS Biochemistry is designed at the cutting edge, and prepares our students to be eligible for advance studies in these fields across the globe. The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry degree program consists of a combination of requirements and electives which ensure a strong foundation in the chemical and biological sciences. This flexible degree program offers the opportunity to specialize in Biochemistry. In the first two years, the students take general and common theoretical courses. Emphasis is placed on practical training and developing transferable skills that will be valuable in a wide range of professional settings.
